Zisola is an Italian red wine from the 100% Nero d’Avola variety, produced in the Mazzei winery, in the southeast of Sicily. The whole area, located at an altitude between 100 and 130 meters above sea level, with a west/southwest exposure and a slope between 8% and 10%, is characterized by a medium mixed soil with a strong limestone content and a rich structure. The sea breeze coming from the nearby coast helps to moderate the heat in summer and moderate the winters, which creates conditions that, together with the special characteristics of the soil, allow the perfect ripening of grapes and wines characterized by elegance and personality. Hand picking takes place during the second and third week of September. Then the grapes are left to ferment and macerate for 14-16 days at a controlled temperature of 26-28°. After that, the wine ages for 10 months in French oak barrels with a volume of 225 l, one third of which are new.
