A Merlot-dominant blend from Pauillac, the Pastourelle de Clerc Milon 2020 is a deep crimson colour with a purple hue. Elegant and expressive aromas of bilberry, black cherry, pastry and potpourri emerge effortlessly from within the glass. The palate is a magnificent expression of ripe fruit, smooth, full and rich with precise tannins. The finish lingers with notes of spice and cocoa.
Part of the vast estates of Lafite in the 18th century, the Château of today’s Clerc Milon was sold as a ‘national asset’ in the Revolution and the Clerc family acquired the estate in the late 1700’s. Ranked as a Fifth Growth in the 1855 classification, the vineyard area at that time covered around 30 hectares. It covered even less in 1970 when Baron Philippe de Rothschild acquired the Château at little more than half its original size. But he believed in the wine’s potential. Today the vineyards cover 41 hectares in the north-east of the Pauillac appellation and are planted to Cabernet Sauvignon , Merlot , Cabernet Franc , Petit Verdot and Carmenere . Vineyard practices here are on a par with those practiced at Mouton Rothschild.
