History
The names have followed one another in history for this Château d’Armailhac belonging to the Baroness Philippine de Rothschild. After being named, among other names, Mouton Baronne Philippine, it is only in 1989 that this 5th Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac acquires the surname that we know him. The Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, who really took care of this wine, debaptised it to find some of its origins when, in the classification of 1855, it was named Château Mouton d’Armailhac.
Terroir & Vinification
Château d’Armailhac has 50 ha of vines (aged 43) on a terroir of the authentic Médoc, is circumscribed to the west and south by Château Pontet Canet, to the north and east by Château Mouton Rothschild . Part of the old barrels of this Premier Cru Classé is used to raise his little cousin. The traditional Médoc grape varieties makes up Château d’Armailhac’s vineyard: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc & Petit Verdot. Then, the vinification is done in stainless steel vats with a vatting time of 15 to 20 days. The aging is done in oak barrels (new for 25%) for 15 to 16 months.
